When I play a new review game with my students, I want it to be very low prep and very engaging for my students. I don't want to make giant game boards or type a bunch of questions into a Jeopardy PowerPoint. I also like getting my students all riled up sometimes. With that being said, you know this game is a good one!

Boom! Game - Construction

For this game, you will need popsicle sticks and a set of task cards. You will also likely want a cup, bin, or envelope to hold the sticks while playing the game.

Number the sticks with however many problems or questions you want your students to answer. Also, on a few sticks write the word "BOOM!" So, if you have 30 task cards, you may want to have 32-35 popsicle sticks.

Boom! Game - Instructions

First, divide students into teams. Then, each team will take turns drawing a stick and solving the problem on the task card corresponding to the number on the stick. Teams must show their work before the problem is considered correct.

If the team is correct, then they keep the popsicle stick and the game continues. If the team is incorrect, they return the stick to the cup. Don't let teams "steal" the question, because the stick will be drawn again since it was returned to the cup.

If a team draws a stick with the word "BOOM!" written on it, they must return all of their sticks to the cup. If you don't want students to answer the same questions again, you can just have them return the sticks without putting them back in the cup.

The winning team is whichever team has the most sticks at the end of the class period. As teams collect sticks, it gets very stressful to not draw a BOOM stick!

Have fun!
